Consider joining a Colorado survival school if you're interested in taking a class about wilderness survival. There are many reasons why you should enroll in a Colorado survival course. One of the best things about these classes, is that they are practical and accessible to people of all levels. This Colorado survival school can help you prepare for anything, no matter how new or experienced.

John Colter's Paleontology

While studying for a science class in the early 1870s, I read a book by John Colter called "Colter's Hell." Colter discovered sulphur, geysers in the area described in this book. This river is now known as the Shoshone. It was Colter’s very first exploration of Wyoming. I didn't know the area was so rich with fossils!

Nicholas Biddle was the author of the book and described Colter's character as a reclusive mountain man. He was seduced at the prospect of wilderness trapping but terrified by the thought of returning home to society. Whether his descriptions are accurate or not, they cannot be directly contested. Biddle's portrayal Colter is not my favorite.

Matt Graham's Institute for Self Reliance

Graham spent half his childhood hiking and camping in Southern Utah. Graham survived by chia seeds as well as a stone knife. Graham became fascinated with the primitive ways of Native Americans, and began to learn about their lives. Graham became a mountain climbeder, mastering primitive skills such hunting and using the longbow by the time he was 17. Later, he began studying martial arts, including Judo and Wushu Kung Fu.

After his successful hike, Matt Graham settled in Boulder and joined Boulder Outdoor Survival School. He taught his students primitive survival skills and is an expert at animal hides and bow hunting. Graham is originally from North Dakota. He grew up in Pierre and spends most of his year teaching those skills that he acquired on the trail. By doing so, he can pass on his knowledge and help future generations.
